About PYT

PYT believes there's a role for everyone, and character is built on stage.

For over 30 years, PYT has brought youth theater to the Bay Area, serving young people aged 5-20 years old, their families and their schools. Community and excellence are central to everything we do: professional-scale Center Stage Musicals, literary stage adaptations and plays, educational programs, camps, outreach with schools, workshops and classes.

PYT’s values (kindness, preparedness, courage), emphasis on the highest production values, and exceptional creative staff, support young performers to develop a deep appreciation for the theatrical arts, and skills that serve their whole lives. A unique family atmosphere - where parents and families form an essential part of our volunteer workforce - and policy of full participation for all, foster a strong sense of self, empathy, artistic expression and community.

PYT is committed to providing an enriching theatrical experience within our community and schools, to demonstrate and reinforce the positive role the arts play in academic success. Over 450,000 Bay Area families and school students have attended PYT shows, and tens of thousands of young performers have performed and taken classes. The Stories on Stage program was founded in 1998, and brings adaptations of classic and award-winning literature and picture books – including several world premieres – to thousands of families each year.
